Audi Skoda VW MIB no audio output (no sound) Problem

The current infotainment platform for VW Group

The core system consists of a DIN size main unit and a display screen. All functions are integrated inside the main unit, which is mounted in glovebox in most cases. Control input is through a controller in Audi cars and touchscreen for the rest.

There are different types of MIB main units depending on the car's option level. Second generation from 2016 is called MIB 2 (II), and from 2018 is sometimes referrred to as MIB 2.5. Top of the range option equipped with units made by Harman Becker, are the most advanced one. The unit offers radio, DAB, DVD playing, navigation, camera display, Bluetooth and smarthpone connectivity all in a small body.

Despite the compact size, the mainunit is designed to output over 200W of audio power. That's 4x50W doors speakers and 100W subwoofer, with decent audio quality. Together with mostly poor heat radiating condition, this has lead to a common problem of audio failing in these unit.
