Cockpit Management and Navigation Display with Assisted Parking System (COMAND APS), that's what you see and hear when you sit in a Mercedes. NTG (Neue Telematik Generation) denotes a series of headunits and other equipments that power COMAND system since 2000.
We offer repair and supply for most popular COMAND APS models
It's important to note that since 2009 with NTG2.5, all Mercedes headunit are anti-theft protected. Our supplied headunits include anti-theft code for unlocking after installation, which requires supported diagnostic tool to enter the code.
MBUX
MBUX (MB User Interface) is the concept of having digital instrument cluster and entertainment display in one panel so they appear as one seamless system. From 2023 a dedicated screen for front passenger was added to present an uniform interactive experience surrounding the dash.
S-Class W222, CL C117 in 2014 and E-Class W213 in 2015 are first to use MBUX, by then the system still used NTG5 headunit and instrument is a fully separate unit. From NTG5.5 in 2019, NTG6 in 2021, NTG7 in 2023 and beyond are truly MBUX with headunit also driving instrument.
NTG5, NTG5s1 and NTG5s2
NTG5 was introduced in C-Class W205 in 2014, then GLC, V-class W447 and X-Class W470 in 2016. NTG5s2 was used first in E-Class W213 in 2016 with Smartphone Connectivity (Apple Carplay and Android Auto).
NTG5s1 and NTG5s2 were widely used in many models from 2016 until end of their respective model life. Most of NTG5s1 and all NTG5s2 are of Audio 20 series, which run navigation from SD card. Key difference is that NTG5s1 has control panel attached to the headunit.
NTG5 has no Smartphone capability, and we do offer Integration package for it. Some early NTG5s1 (2014-2016) also don't have the function enabled, which we can offer to activate.
NTG3, NTG3.5, NTG4, NTG4.5 and NTG4.7
NTG3 is exclusive to S-Class W221 introduced in 2006, NTG3.5 followed in facelift model in 2009.
NTG4 came with C-Class W204 in 2006 and E-Class W212 in 2008, NTG4.5 went to the facelift W204 in 2009 and NTG4.7 went facelift W212 in 2013.
The rest of model range A-Class W176, B-Class W246, CLA C117, ML W166, GL X166, SLK W172, SL were all using NTG4.5 / 4.7 during 2012-2016.
Besides supplying genuine replacement, we offer Smartphone integration for all NTG4.5 / 4.7.
NTG1, NTG2, NTG2.5 and Audio 15
NTG1 system is used in E-Class W211 and SLK R172 2003-2007, also S-Class W220 2004-2006 and SL R230 2005-2008. Due to its design, failure of any equipment within the fiber optic ring will cause the whole system to stop working. Therefore troubleshooting usually involves ring break analysis to determine the equipment in question in order to replace or repair.
NTG2 system has a headunit in typical sense, with screen, radio tuner and built-in navigation running on internal DVD drive. It's used widely in all models during 2004-2008, then superseded by NTG2.5 during 2009-2011.
NTG2.5 remains the most complete all-in-one Mercedes headunit to this day, with built-in navigation running on HDD, radio tuner, DVD changer and Bluetooth. After 2011, Mercedes took away the internal disc changer and added Bluetooth audio to make Audio 15 headunit. Audio 15 design was then used in most van models (Vito, Viano and Sprinter) up to today.
Older Models
COMAND actually started a little before NTG1. The first headunit with navigation and display screen was introduced in the E-Class W210 and the S-Class W220 in 1998. The system is called COMAND 2.5 for its size euivalent to 2.5 DIN, not to be confused with NTG2.5. From 2002, its zise was reduced to make COMAND 2.0 and fitted in S-Class W220, SL R230, C-Class W203 and CLK C209.
Both COMAND 2.5 and 2.0 were made by Bosch with trully bulletproof quality as some of these units are still running today, same as the car they are fitted in. However, there are components that need to be renewed such as LCD display, disc drive and audio. You can always count on us for repair and supply of genuine equipment to keep the system running in your rpecious Mercedes.
