Audi MMI System
It is most important to perform diagnosis to find the exact point of failure
MMI system is formed up by a severa components linked by a fiber optic ring. When any equipment on ring fails except the headunit (J794), the system is not operational just flashes MMI logo on screen.
Therefore a ring break dignosis is required to determine the equipment in question. If diagnostic software (such as VCDS) is not available, a fiber optic loop can be used to bypass each equipment one by one until a bad one is found.
Below is list of equipments and associated symptoms when fail:
- Can-bus gateway (J522): this is the interfacing point of the whole MMI system to the car. it allows MMI system to turn off when ignition is off and wake up when door opens
- headunit (J794): controls operation of the whole system. In MMI3G/3G+ this also includes built-in navigation on HDD and Bluetooth. Therefore when there's problem with navigation or phone, it should points to the headunit. headunit problems also include crashing/restarting while running or totally dead.
- Display screen (J685): this hardly fails and the only paractical way to check is to plug in a known good display
- MMI Controller (E380): acts as a keyboard to a computer, susceptible to liquid spills from cup holder. Symptoms include sticky buttons, eratic jumping of menu and volume
- Radio module (R), with internal amplifier: this proven to be the most common point of failure due to water damage, trigerring the system to shutdown after flashing logo on screen
- Premium amplifier (J525): in cars with Bose / B&O sound system this is also the most common fails due to water damage, trigerring the system to shutdown after flashing logo on screen
- Navigaion Unit (Only MMI2G): running navigation from DVD, when fails also triggers the system to shutdown after flashing logo on screen
- Telephone Unit (Only MMI2G): provide Bluetooth handsfree, when fails also triggers the system to shutdown after flashing logo on screen
Headunit and Radio Module are Component Protected, replacement requires to be CP-removed with dealer's tool.
We provide transfer of CP information from original (faulty) equipment to our replacement ensuring plug and play experience.
